Diversity and Inclusion Officer

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm 

 

The purpose of this position is to be a strategic leader in the diversity initiatives throughout Sedgwick County. The Diversity and Inclusion Officer strives to collaborate and strategize with leaders throughout to implement practices and policies to include diversity awareness and cultural inclusion with the organization and throughout all of Sedgwick County.

  • Champion and be accountable on diversity, equity, & inclusion programs, practices and policies within Sedgwick County. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer is a strategic leader, thought partner and implementer who will connect the dots between diversity and inclusion efforts across the organization.
  • Develop a comprehensive organization-wide strategic diversity, equity and inclusion strategic plan.
  • Develop training programs for internal staff and assist outside community entities to do same.
  • Work with leadership, management and staff to further a more vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment for underrepresented and all members of the organization.
  • In collaboration with leadership, develop and implement specific enterprise diversity objectives to align inclusion initiatives with organizational strategies, including the organizational mission with analytics focused on the workplace, workforce and community.
  • Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends; collaborates with senior leadership to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategies.
  • Initiate the development of strategies to support diversity and inclusion needs and demands based on current and future business needs of the organization and surrounding communities.
  • Serve as a change agent, consultant, thought-leader, influencer on diversity, equity and inclusion related issues that impact the organization.
  • Serve as a leading expert in providing DEI educational programs and training, to the employee population as needed.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to enhance recruitment, hiring, promotion and retention of diverse staff, and provide support to employees with diverse experiences and backgrounds.
  • Ensure diversity outcome is reflected in the workforce/workplace and in business activities, including marketing materials, suppliers/vendors and community-facing efforts.
  • Build relationships with leaders, stakeholders and colleagues to drive diversity-related messages throughout the organization.
  • Represent the organization with external organizations regarding diversity issues that affect the business community and work to build the organization’s brand and reputation for diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to create communications to increase diversity and inclusion awareness.
  • Identify, develop and foster relationships with relevant external organizations, thought leaders, partners & vendors.
  • Develop and implement best practices for diversity and inclusion action planning. Ensure accountability for follow up.
  • Develop tracking strategies to monitor and evaluate the impact and ROI of initiatives; develop reports on program effectiveness and make recommendations for program enhancement and improvement.
  • Work with senior leadership in designing and implementing institution-wide changes to ensure diversity, equity and respect for all teammates. Identifies areas of opportunity, develop recommended courses of action, secures senior leadership approval and drives implementation.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in related work field (Human Resources, Public Management or similar field). Five (5) years’ experience working directly in diversity incentives, programs or policies.
