This is a professional, salaried position in the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) that analyzes primary and secondary public health data and assists the SCHD and community partners with the planning and implementation of the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The Community Health Analyst leads the health assessment portion of the CHA and monitors and reports on the community’s progress on the CHIP. Consultation and collaboration with internal Health Department staff and external health partners is required. Work is directed, reviewed and evaluated using established performance indicators and goals. The work of the Community Health Analyst guides community and SCHD efforts to improve the health of Sedgwick County residents.

  1. Lead SCHD and coordinate partner activities for the Community Health Assessment (CHA)
  • Lead SCHD community assessment activities, including community surveys and partner meetings
  • Update and revise the CHA with new information or data from partners
  • Communicate results of the CHA to community partners
  • Write CHA reports for internal and external partners
  1. Collect, analyze and report primary and secondary health data
  • Maintain the electronic health assessment data tracking system
  • Accurately update, analyze and report required information on health status indicators
  • Collect and analyze chronic disease data and communicate results to internal Health Department staff, external health partners and the public through presentations, written reports, scientific posters and peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Respond to data requests from individuals and organizations that request data
  1. Monitor and assist with implementation of the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP)
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners
  • Assist in the development of the three-year CHIP
  • Work with community groups to implement strategies identified in the CHIP
  • Monitor CHIP activities reported by community partners
  • Maintain electronic CHIP reporting system
  • Write CHIP reports for internal and external partners

Minimum Qualifications:  Master of Public Health or related masters such as biological, medical or health science. Nine semester hours of coursework in epidemiological methods and/or statistics.  One year of data analysis and data management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  Five years of experience in public health, including community assessment and program evaluation. Two years of data analysis and data management experience.
