EMS System Medical Director

Pay:  $164,736 annually | Salary is negotiable based on qualifications 

Work Schedule: 32 hours per week, 64 hours per pay period 

 

The EMS System Medical Director is the principal medical authority for the EMS System. A statutorily mandated position to provide ambulance services, the Medical Director is responsible for oversight of all clinical care provided within the system. Primary functions include off-line medical direction (including the credentialing process), collaboration with system healthcare partners, administration of the division, and on-line/field practice of medicine.

 

Off-Line Medical Direction and Clinical Oversight

  • Serve as the principal medical authority for the EMS System
  • Develop, review and periodically update medical protocols and medical procedures in conjunction with EMSS system partner organizations
  • Develop the medical response profiles for all EMS System agencies
  • Facilitate the development and delivery of continuing education programs for EMS responders and System Level Clinical Education
  • Provide medical direction, coordination, and oversight for EMS System quality assurance/improvement programs.
  • Be the sole authority for all oversight of verification of participating provider competency and provider credentialing

 

Collaborate with System Healthcare Partners 

  • Primary contact person for community physicians and clinical leadership.
  • Primary contact person for the Medical Society of Sedgwick County
  • Solicit input from healthcare partners to develop clinical changes within the EMS System
  • Facilitate partnership within the healthcare multidisciplinary collaboratives
  • Report system performance to stakeholders

 

Administrative Direction of the Office of the Medical Director

  • Manage the budget for the division
  • Comply with assigned director level tasks from the Managers Office, HR, budget, etc
  • Provide supervision and accountability for personnel within the department
  • Performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, personnel development, etc

 

Minimum Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy, Emergency Medicine Board Certified or ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in the Practice of Emergency Medicine, Kansas Medical License.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy. Five (5) years of EMS Medical Direction. Emergency Medicine Board Certification, EMS Fellowship, EMS Subspecialty Board Certification.
