Epidemiologist - Health

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday 

 

This is a professional position in the Sedgwick County Health Department that is responsible for the investigation and monitoring of notifiable diseases and conditions to control the spread of disease and protect the public from health threats. The Epidemiologist communicates with medical providers and interviews clients with notifiable diseases and their contacts, monitors disease trends, performs data analysis, and writes reports. The Epidemiologist provides content expertise for infectious diseases and epidemiological methods and plans and implements studies to prevent or control diseases, injuries or conditions.

 

Conduct disease investigations
• Perform timely investigations of individual disease reports.
• Accurately record documentation of disease investigation work.
• Accurately and thoroughly complete notifiable disease investigations.
• Lead outbreak investigations.

 

Monitor, analyze, and report on disease data to improve the health of the community
• Manage, analyze, and summarize disease monitoring data and write reports.
• Plan and implement studies to prevent or control lead poisoning.
• Plan and implement a project to prevent or control the spread of disease.

 

Work with health partners to educate and collaborate in controlling the spread of disease
• Build partnerships with internal and external partners.
• Work with the Health Department’s WIC program on lead screening activities. Coordinate and conduct quarterly WIC elevated lead case review meetings.
• Work with health partners to improve disease reporting.
• Create educational materials for health partners and the public.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation with a master’s degree in public health, a biological, medical or health science which includes 9 semester hours in epidemiological methods or in a related field; with a minimum of one year of experience in epidemiology or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology or at least nine semester hour graduate coursework in epidemiological and statistical methods from an accredited college or university. Master of Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology or at least nine semester hour graduate coursework in epidemiological and statistical methods from an accredited college or university. At least two years of work experience in a public health department or healthcare setting. At least one year of experience with data management and/or data analysis; experience with SAS, SPSS or other database software preferred.
