Immunization Clinic Nurse II - Health

Work Schedule: M-W 8-5:30, Th 9:30-7, F 8-12:30/12:30-5 

 

Perform Immunization and Health Screening services at all clinic locations. CHN II utilizes critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques based on medical judgments. The CHN II will maintain professional expertise and keep confidentiality in all areas of patient contact. Works under the direction of written medical protocols and standing orders.

 

Provide direct patient care and education to customers obtaining services

  • Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous immunizations, perform phlebotomy and capillary blood sampling for lab tests, screen for pediculosis (head lice), place TB skin tests and interpret the results
  • Provide appropriate and effective patient interaction and customer service
  • Provide immunization and health screening services according to SCHD protocol
  • Document all services
  • Immunize clients according to ACIP’s CDC recommendations
  • Participate in clinics outside regular clinic hours

 

Support Immunization Clinic Services

  • Verify and accurately document vaccine tally count
  • Accurately complete assigned reporting
  • Complete assigned reporting timely
  • Prepare treatment room/area for patient care and immunizations
  • Participate in QI project

 

Vaccine Inventory Management

  • Accurately document and track vaccine administered using tally count and or electronic spreadsheet
  • Minimize vaccine wastage by selecting vaccines from the correct funding source for each client
  • Minimize vaccine wastage by selecting and preparing the appropriate vaccine(s) for each client
  • Participate in inventory processes including periodic counting and usage reporting

 

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited school. Holds a valid, unencumbered nursing license with the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Participates in the TB screening program that includes baseline screening for M. tuberculosis infection within 10 days of employment. Participates in the Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan that includes training, proof of hepatitis B immunity or vaccine, or vaccine series started within 10 days of employment. Provide proof of MMR, varicella, Tdap vaccinations, or immunity within 10 days of employment start date or within 10 days of start of employee health insurance. All employees may be required to wear respirators in emergency situations and for routine operations as requested. Employees will be enrolled in the respiratory protection program, which may include an annual fit testing and medical evaluation. This is a Tier 3 position; identified as personnel who, in a public health emergency, have the potential to be deployed to the field to participate in the response, including personnel who are already assigned to a field location. Tier 3 staff are required to complete courses IS 100, 200 and 700 within 30 days of employment. Additional trainings may be required. Bilingual individuals in English and a non-English language may take a fluency test in the non-English language. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, only those who pass the test may use their non-English language with clients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). After hire, a bilingual employee who has passed the fluency test may agree to take a medical interpreter skills test to interpret between a client with LEP and an English-speaking employee. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Experience and training in the field of public health.
