Medical Call Center Specialist COVID-19

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am - 5pm

The Medical Call Center Specialist is a temporary position in the Sedgwick County Health Department that supports the COVID-19 response. Over the phone and by email, the Specialist answers medical-related COVID-19 questions, supports vaccine and testing, and calls patients with test results and vaccine follow up. The Specialist assists with scheduling volunteers and creating reports as needed. Ensures patient confidentiality. Follows HIPAA policies.

Over the phone and by email, answer medical-related questions and call clients with test results and vaccine follow up.

  • Talk to clients over the phone using good customer service and listening skills
  • Assess clients using flow charts and algorithms
  • Accurately document assessments using appropriate forms
  • Provide COVID-19 disease, testing, and vaccine information. Provide test results.
  • Accurately and timely document calls in call log

Support vaccine activities

  • Conduct audits of vaccine scheduling system and resolve discrepancies
  • Resolve vaccine scheduling issues through phone consult with clients
  • Accurately document patient information
  • Assist with volunteer coordination, as needed
  • Follow HIPAA policies

Perform other COVID-19 response duties

  • Communicate needs, concerns, and issues to supervisor
  • Assist with daily report creation, as needed
  • Assist with completion of laboratory requisitions and reporting as needed
  • Assist in training new Medical Triage Line staff and volunteers
  • Communicate with 2-1-1 United Way of the Plains, as needed
  • Assist with data entry of client information, as needed.


Minimum Qualifications: Certification as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedic or other professional licensure or training which provides certification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. One year of work experience in a medical field completing patient assessments. Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and computer skills are required. Current certification or license.


Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in health-related field. Two years of work experience in a medical field completing patient assessments. One year of work experience in a public health department or healthcare setting. Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese.
