Mobile Immunization Nurse-HEALTH

Work Schedule: M-W 8-5:30, Th 9:30-7, F 8-12:30/12:30-5, occasional Saturdays  

 

The Mobile Immunization Nurse is a full-time position in the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD). The position reports to the Immunization Services Coordinator. The Mobile Immunization Nurse organizes and attends immunization clinics throughout the community to make services more accessible. The Mobile Immunization Nurse performs immunization and health screening services at all clinic locations. The Mobile Immunization Nurse utilizes critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques based on medical judgments. The Mobile Immunization Nurse will maintain professional expertise and keep confidentiality in all areas of patient contact.  Works under the direction of written medical protocols and standing orders. 

 

Provide direct patient care and education to customers obtaining services

  • Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous immunizations, perform phlebotomy and capillary blood sampling for lab tests, screen for pediculosis (head lice), place TB skin tests and interpret the results
  • Provide appropriate and effective patient interaction and customer service
  • Provide immunization and health screening services according to SCHD protocol
  • Document all services
  • Immunize clients according to ACIP’s CDC recommendations
  • Occasionally participate in clinics outside regular clinic hours

 

Support Immunization Clinic Services

  • Drive to various community sites providing vaccinations, health screenings, and education to clients
  • Pack vaccines into portable containers and transport them along with medical supplies to various community sites
  • Schedules and set up mobile clinics with local community partners
  • Reserve county vehicle per policy and procedure
  • Follows current CDC vaccine storage and handling recommendations when transporting vaccines to offsite clinics
  • Load and unload supplies to and from mobile clinic sites
  • Prepares and set up mobile clinic sites with supplies, equipment, and other things needed to operate
  • Verify and accurately document vaccine usage
  • Prepare treatment room/area for patient care and immunizations
  • Accurately complete assigned reporting in a timely manner
  • Provide immunization education to school nurses, community partners and community organizations
  • Create and update immunization education training materials
  • Participate in QI project
  • Attend and participate in Immunization Team Meetings
  • Perform related duties when covering for the WIC/IAP Immunizations Nurse and Immunization Clinic Nurse

 

Vaccine Inventory Management  

  • Accurately document and track vaccines
  • Minimize vaccine wastage by selecting vaccines from the correct funding source for each client
  • Minimize vaccine wastage by selecting and preparing appropriate vaccine for each client
  • Participate in inventory processes including periodic vaccine counting and usage reporting

 

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Holds a valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license with the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers/AED certification and required trainings to maintain licensure and/or certification.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. New graduates welcome. Work experience in public health agency or medical-related agency, such as a hospital, medical clinic, or emergency medical services (EMS). In order to comply with the requirements of the federal health care staff COVID-19 vaccination mandate, all employees of COMCARE and the Health Department must be fully vaccinated.
