Testing Medical Staff Coordinator - COVID-19

Work Schedule: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday,7:30AM-6PM Wed, some evenings possible  

 

The Testing Medical Staff Coordinator is a temporary position at the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) that supports COVID-19 response. This position qualifies to take samples for COVID-19 testing. The position is responsible for coordinating the staff, procedures and safety for the medical staff at the SCHD COVID-19 testing site. The position supervises six Medical Specialists or Nurses who sample patients and ensure accurate and timely documentation. The position ensures procedures and workflows are updated and followed by all staff, ensures staff receive training, and communicates daily with other testing site staff. The Coordinator responds to questions from clients, ensures testing team work is completed accurately and timely; ensures patient confidentiality; follows HIPAA policies; maintains professional expertise; and works under the direction of written medical protocols and standing orders. Tasks will be performed under partial or full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

 

Coordinate medical staff at SCHD COVID-19 testing site

  • Ensure sufficient staffing
  • Work with Testing Logistics Specialist to ensure staff have needed supplies and equipment onsite and samples are delivered to laboratories accurately and timely
  • Review relevant testing data and report accurately to supervisor
  • Ensure changes in processes are communicated effectively and timely to staff
  • Maintain situational awareness about local, state, and national COVID-19 testing information
  • Determine needs and request additional resources as needed from supervisor

 

Supervise medical staff at SCHD testing site

  • Ensure staff meet performance expectations, including customer service and technical skills
  • Evaluate performance staff through observation, audits, and team meetings
  • Ensure documentation of testing site activities
  • Write, review and update workflows, job action sheets, job descriptions, and processes
  • Provide staff and volunteer training and new staff onboarding

 

Support COVID-response activities

  • Collect respiratory samples using appropriate technique
  • Assist clients with collecting saliva specimens
  • Collect other samples as needed
  • Administer vaccine to patients if asked to serve in Vaccine Branch when needed
  • Serve as Testing Branch Manager when needed
  • Provide accurate COVID-19 disease, testing, and vaccine information

 

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and certification as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse, Paramedic, Laboratory Technician or other professional licensure or training from an accredited program which provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an accredited program that provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. Work experience in a medical field performing patient assessments and sample collection. Work experience as a supervisor evaluating staff performance and training new staff. Certification or licensure or documentation of training in the particular field listed under educational requirements. OR Associate’s degree and completion of an accredited program.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum requirements plus bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. One year of work experience in a medical field performing patient assessments and sample collection. Work experience in a public health department. Work experience supervising staff, including coordinating schedules and performing performance audits. Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese.
