Testing Site Coordinator COVID-19

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM with some evening hours and weekend hours possible 

This is a temporary position at the Sedgwick County Health Department that supports COVID-19 response. This position qualifies to take samples for COVID-19 testing and provide vaccinations to clients at Health Department locations. The positions coordinates 20 people in three main testing teams to sample patients at a fixed site. The position works closely with the Testing Branch Manager, Mobile Testing Coordinator, Vaccine Branch Manager, and Logistics Officer to ensure sufficient supplies and staffing for COVID-19 testing and vaccination, as workload changes daily. The Testing Site Coordinator writes and updates protocols and evaluates staff to ensure compliance. The Coordinator ensures the safety of staff and clients, assessing patients and situations as needed. The position works with the Testing Branch Manager to change and improve processes at the fixed site as needed. The position ensures testing team work is completed accurately and timely and ensures patient confidentiality, follows HIPAA policies, maintains professional expertise, and works under the direction of written medical protocols and standing orders.


Coordinate and supervise teams that collect patient samples for COVID-19 testing

  • Onboard and train new Testing Team staff and volunteers
  • Work with supervisor, Mobile Testing Coordinator, and Vaccine Branch Manager to plan and coordinate schedules among staff and volunteers, ensuring staffing meets need
  • Supervise and evaluate performance of 20 staff and volunteers through observations, audits, and team meetings.
  • Serve as site safety officer, completing safety audits and incident forms as needed

Work with fixed site and laboratory and coordinate specimen packaging and shipping

  • Work with site and laboratory to schedule sampling
  • Ensure specimen packaging and shipping is performed in a timely manner
  • Ensure specimens and specimen kits are delivered and picked up in a timely manner

Support COVID-response activities

  • Collect respiratory samples using appropriate technique
  • Assist clients with collecting saliva specimens
  • Administer vaccine to patients if asked to serve in Vaccine Branch when needed
  • Complete documentation accurately and timely
  • Perform data entry of patient information into client management and laboratory requisition systems
  • Serve as Testing Branch Manager when needed


Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Medical Assistant, Paramedic, Laboratory Technician or other professional licensure or training from an accredited program which provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of an accredited program that provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. Work experience in a medical field performing patient assessments and sample collection. Work experience as a supervisor evaluating staff performance and training new staff. Certification or licensure or documentation of training in the particular field listed under educational requirements. OR Associate’s degree and completion of an accredited program.


Preferred Qualifications: Minimum requirements plus bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Work experience in a public health department. Two years of experience in nursing practice and performing blood draws and specimen collections required for laboratory testing. One year supervisory and scheduling experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish or Vietnamese.
