Zoo Custodian

Pay:  $9.45 per hour 

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week 

 

Cleans and maintains all buildings and structures of public/non-public use assuring the facilities are clean and safe.

 

Assessment of Facilities

  • Evaluates facilities for identified cleaning requirements and has awareness for items needing custodial care
  • Prepares facilities and supplies for events
  • Makes decisions on cleaning in facilities based on conservation of the supplies and environmental impact

 

Maintain Facilities

  • Maintains knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the custodial trade
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes chairs, tables, shelves and other furniture and equipment. Washes windows, walls, woodwork and blinds.
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; replaces expendable supplies and paper products
  • Vacuums, sweeps, mop and buffs floors. Uses care in the cleaning of materials.
  • Operates auto scrubbers, various other motorized floor machines, and wet vac systems (kaivacs)

 

Inventory Monitoring and Safety

  • Has knowledge of current recycling efforts in facilities; collects and properly disposes of all refuse
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of custodian care and of necessary safety precautions
  • Stocks all supplies for facility cleaning and use
  • Has good knowledge of hazard communications including Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and maintains product identifiers on all products used in facilities
  • Properly mixes cleaning products according to the manufactures guidance

 

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience in custodial work or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid State of Kansas driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications: One year custodial experience.
