Sedgwick County offers a competitive benefits package to keep you and your family healthy.  We encourage employees to take responsibility for their personal health and provide tools to help you be a better consumer of health care.

Medical/Prescription

The Sedgwick County Medical/Prescription Plan is administered by UnitedHealthcare and Optum RX.  Sedgwick County offers three plans: A High Deductible Health Plan and two PPO Plans. 

Dental

The Sedgwick County Dental Plan is administered by Delta Dental of Kansas. 

The Plan will pay up to $1,000 per individual covered per year.  Dental Plan benefits: 

  • Preventive Services (i.e.: cleanings, x-rays, exams)-2 times a year, 100% paid by Plan
  • Basic Services (i.e.: fillings, root canals)-80% paid by Plan as long as 1 cleaning in past 12 months. If no cleaning in past 12 months, reduces to 50% paid by Plan.
  • Major Services (i.e.: crowns)-50% Paid by Plan
  • Orthodontic Services (i.e.: Braces)-50% Paid by Plan with $1,500 lifetime max.

Vision

The Sedgwick County Vision Plan is administered by VSP.  Vision Plan benefits:

  • $10 copay for eye exams 
  • Lenses (eyeglass and contact) allowance is $160 every calendar year
  • Frames allowance is $180 every two years
  • Kids care program-allows 2 exams per year and frames every year (for children under 18)

Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)

Life and AD&D insurance is administered by Advance Life.

Life insurance provides protection to you and your family in the event of your death. AD&D can protect yourself or your family in the case of your accidental death or loss of a limb or your sight, for example. Certain limitations and exclusions can apply to these plans.

All eligible employees are given a basic Advance Life and AD&D of $50,000. You may elect to increase coverage to fit your personal insurance needs. You will pay the difference if you choose to increase your coverage. All coverage terminates at employment separation.

Dependent Life Insurance is offered for your Spouse and/or unmarried child(ren) under age 26. 

Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

The Healthcare FSA is administered by Surency.  FSA’s help you save money by allowing you to deduct tax free dollars from your paycheck to cover eligible health expenses you pay out of pocket during the year.  FSA benefits:

  • Annual contribution limits are set by the IRS. Check the Benefits Book for current annual limits
  • You can use the account to help cover expenses like co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, dental and vision expenses
  • Incur expenses until March 15th and file claims by May 14th of year following election unless you separate from the County prior to those dates. Contact benefits@sedgwick.gov with any questions.

Dependent Daycare Flexible Spending Account

The Dependent Daycare FSA is administered by Surency.  FSA’s help you save money by allowing you to deduct tax free dollars from your paycheck to cover eligible day care expenses you pay out of pocket during the year.  FSA benefits:

  • Annual contribution limits are set by the IRS. Check the Benefits Book for current annual limits
  • You can use the account to help cover expenses like day care expenses for children under age 13 and for elderly adults
  • Incur expenses until March 15th and file claims by May 14th of year following election

Metlife

Voluntary Plans offered by Metlife available through payroll deduction:

  • Short Term Disability
  • Critical Illness
  • Hospital Indemnity
  • Pet Insurance - not available through payroll deduction
