This position supports the Sedgwick County Sheriff Investigations Division by assisting supervisors in the division as well as supervising two direct reports. This position oversees reporting, office management, supervision, and special projects. This position requires a high level of confidentiality as well as customer service.  This position may be exposed to emotionally combative customers. Additionally, the position incumbent is regularly exposed to sensitive and disturbing content related to criminal activity, including details about serious injuries and crimes.



  • Assist direct reports with tasks when needed
  • Complete performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Monitor attendance and timecards for direct reports, approve leave requests and overtime, and approve timecards at the end of the pay period
  • Communicate with Finance as needed to complete timecards for joint task force positions shared with outside organizations
  • Resolve any escalated issues from staff
  • Update personnel information in the records management system used by the Sheriff’s Department


Training and Assistance

  • Train all new supervisors in the Investigations division on KRONOS, and provide assistance as needed for timekeeping questions
  • Train clerical staff on new policies and procedures in the Investigations Department
  • Assist Investigations clerical staff with duties and projects during high volume times and absences
  • Track personnel extensions and maintain a roster with regularly updated information
  • In advance of movement, submits paperwork for internal movement for Investigations Division employees
  • Oversee changes to office equipment and functions as laws and regulations change


Reporting and recordkeeping

  • Oversee records retention for the Investigations division to maintain compliance with all laws and regulations, and schedule records transfers according to retention rules
  • Recall records from permanent storage as needed
  • Prepare monthly reports including Dusters for the investigations division, Officer assault and homicide statistics, KLR reports, and all other reports as assigned
  • Send reports to outside organizations as well as members of the Sheriff’s Office
  • Research and complete cost analyses for the Investigations Division to send to outside agencies for reimbursement


Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Three years of experience in an office or administrative setting. One year of experience in customer service. Must obtain NCIC Certification within six months of hire. One year of experience working with Microsoft Suite. Must pass pre-employment testing of 45 words per minute and 80% reading comprehension to be completed before interview.


Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience in a law enforcement agency. Formal NCIC training.
