Computer Aided Design Technician

Operates computer aided design equipment with civil engineering software as part of the design process for Public Works projects. Assists with creation and continual updating of highway maps.


Work with survey and engineering staff to develop existing and proposed terrain conditions of roads, bridges, drainage and miscellaneous projects using computer aided design software

  • Develop drawings representing different views and perspectives.
  • Draft complex design details with accuracy
  • Calculate pavement, earthwork and miscellaneous quantities for projects
  • Utilize spreadsheet software with custom formats and formulas to aid in project development and design
  • Research existing right of way, property ownership and utilities and enter information into plans
  • Coordinate with land survey crews to understand and request additional data


Assist in the development and continual updates of county road maps

  • Updates city limits, road classifications, and various project maps as needed.


Operate wide format plotters, scanners and related equipment to produce project plans, maps, and aerial photography overlays.


Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Two years of work experience in computer aided design.


Preferred Qualifications: One or more years’ experience working with a land surveyor or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience outside an educational setting. AutoCAD Certified Professional.
