Pay:  $20.89 per hour. | This position may be eligible for a sign on bonus of $1,500 after 60 days of employment if selected applicant meets all policy conditions. (Full-time only)  

Work Schedule: Various Shifts / Days including weekends and holidays; Some overtime may be required

Performs routine work involving the observation, security and training of juvenile or adult clients in a 24-hour correctional or residential facility. Monitors client activities within the facility or, as approved, outside the facility, with emphasis on security, behavior modification, control and modeling of prosocial attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors.

 

Direct Care Supervision - Supervises and monitors the care and security of juvenile and adult clients in detention or residential facilities; leads recreation, instructional or educational activities; conducts searches of clients in facilities. Reviews reports and other communications to maintain awareness of activities within the facility and its residents.

 

Client Management - May initiate consequences when clients violate rules; writes disciplinary reports; supervises the application of consequences; investigates incidents; recognizes positive behaviors and acknowledges with incentives. Assists in providing situational counseling for clients regarding their behavior to help them cope with program requirements; provides crisis intervention or suicide prevention; application of approved emergency intervention or restraint when appropriate; administers and documents first aid and medication provided to clients.

 

Direct Care Monitoring - May escort clients to and from school, court, visitation, meals and other activities; engages in liaison and other communication necessary to monitor activities of clients in the community. Inspects living areas to ensure doors, windows and other areas are secure to prevent unauthorized departure and to promote facility security.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Facility staff shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age. High school diploma or equivalent. Transcript verifying education credits is required. Valid Driver’s License and good driving record that meets the requirement of Sedgwick County Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage Policy. Personal vehicle for use when county vehicle is not available (employee reimbursement is provided by County). Proof of liability insurance on personal vehicle. Must possess first aid, CPR, and physical restraint certification or the ability to acquire within initial period of employment. Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screen for alcohol and drugs. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Associate of Arts (AA) degree with related course work in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. Two years’ experience working with youth and families. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience.
