Assists in bridge structure inspections under the direction of a KDOT qualified Bridge Inspection Team Leader. Helps maintain bridge inspection files; reports inspection data to KDOT in cooperation with the Team Leader. Maintains construction plan archives. Conducts field inspections for highway and utility permits.
Conduct bridge inspections under the direct supervision of a KDOT qualified Bridge Inspection Team Leader.
- Identifies infrastructure components and document their condition.
- Notifies the appointed team leader of concerns; make recommendations for corrections.
- Recognizes field evidence of flood levels; record data.
- Assists in maintaining bridge records; enters data and organizes files.
- Adheres to county, state and federal safety regulations.
- Supports efforts to properly archive construction plans.
- Keeps plans organized for staff use.
- Maintains database of available plan files and their location.
Assist Public Works staff with permit applications
- Collects field information of existing conditions for utility and highway permits.
- Inspects post-construction conditions and reports findings.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. One year experience in construction or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid Kansas Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications: Three years of experience in highway or bridge construction inspection or a similar field. Completion of the FHWA Bridge Safety Inspection Course, Certification from KDOT’s Certified Inspector Training Program in Basic Inspection (BI) and Structures (STR).
