The FMLA and ADA Specialist position helps facilitate a positive employee experience by acting as a resource for employees and supervisors regarding all aspects of Sedgwick County’s Family Medical Leave Act policy and Americans with Disabilities Act policy.  This position is responsible for administering the FML and ADA procedures for all Sedgwick County employees and is responsible for ensuring the County’s compliance with FML, ADA and that these policies are aligned with federal and state employment law.  This position also serves as the Sedgwick County ADA Coordinator and Liaison. 


Administer Family Medical Leave according to federal law and county policy.

  • Provide FML customer service to employees, acting as an informed resource for employees and supervisors.
  • Provide initial FML information, process designation notices and return to work certificates.
  • Run Kronos reports to track FML usage, process event reports. Process historical edits in the timekeeping system as needed.
  • Facilitate and lead employee options meetings as needed.
  • Ensure supervisors and employees comply with FML law and policy.
  • Provide advice and counsel to all levels of management on FML policy/procedures.


Lead, coordinate, and facilitate the County’s ADA compliance program.

  • Serve as the Sedgwick County ADA Coordinator.
  • Provide information to the public and County staff relating to ADA requirements, accommodations, and facility accessibility.
  • Direct and guide the employee accommodations process, leading and facilitating interactive dialogue and accommodation discussions between employees and supervisors.
  • Provide advice and counsel to all levels of management on ADA policy/procedures.



  • Review/research changes to legal requirements, regulatory changes or compliance issues affecting FML and ADA.
  • Drive process improvement and implement best practices through research and training.


Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Public or Business Administration or a related field.  Two years’ experience working in human resources. Completion of an Excel test with a score of 75% or higher.  Selected candidates will be provided instructions regarding how to complete the required Excel testing.


Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Public or Business Administration or a related field. Two years’ experience in administering FML and ADA programs in a business or government setting. Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR), Society for Human Resource Management certification (SHRM), ADA certification or advanced training.
