General Clinic Nurse - Health

Provides direct nursing services for patients in the clinic setting. The General Clinic provides Family Planning services, Sexually Transmitted Infection screening and treatment, pre- and inter-conception counseling, and breast and cervical cancer screening and referral. CHN II utilizes critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques based on medical judgments. Work is performed under the general direction of written medical protocols and mid-level providers (APRN and PA). Maintain professional expertise and keep confidentiality in all areas of patient contact.

 

Provide Quality Public Services through direct patient care and education.

  • Accurately enter the minimal required information on the pharmacy log as documented in charts and KIPHS as evident through monthly pharmacy audit.
  • Notify clients with abnormal lab and call out prescribed medication or make follow-up appointments as ordered by MLPs for as evident through monthly peer review/audit.

 

Assure Quality Public Services by providing excellent customer services and accurate data documentation.

  • Complete required program data collection forms (DAISEYs) by the end of business day.
  • Obtain, review, and document clients’ medical/health history, consent(s), vital signs, lab specimen(s) and other required information in appropriate forms per program policy and protocol.

 

Support SC and DOH strategic plans by ensure success of programs’ goals and objectives are met.

  • Support clinic program by working with team members to ensure that programs’ goals and objectives are met.
  • Participate in at least one QI project per year.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an approved school of nursing plus two years of experience in nursing. Possess and maintain a valid, unencumbered, and unrestricted state of Kansas Registered Nursing License (RN). Current CPR certification. Participates in the TB screening program that includes baseline screening for M. tuberculosis infection within 10 days of employment; participates in the Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan that includes training, proof of hepatitis B immunity or vaccine, or vaccine series started within 10 days of employment; utilize Universal Precautions in performance of job and when transporting blood and urine specimens from point of collection to point of testing; provide proof of MMR, varicella, Tdap vaccinations, or immunity within 10 days of employment start date or within 10 days of start of employee health insurance. All employees may be required to wear respirators in emergency situations and for routine operations as requested. Employees will be enrolled in the respiratory protection program, which may include an annual fit testing and medical evaluation. This is a Tier 3 position; identified as personnel who, in a public health emergency, have the potential to be deployed to the field to participate in the response, including personnel who are already assigned to a field location. Tier 3 staff are required to complete courses IS 100, 200 and 700 within 30 days of employment. Additional trainings may be required. Bilingual individuals in English and a non-English language may take a fluency test in the non-English language. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, only those who pass the test may use their non-English language with clients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). After hire, a bilingual employee who has passed the fluency test may agree to take a medical interpreter skills test to interpret between a client with LEP and an English-speaking employee. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Experience in public health.
