The Graphic & Multimedia Designer COVID-19 is a full-time, grant-funded position in the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) in support of reducing the spread of disease and preventing illness related to COVID-19. The Graphic & Multimedia Designer works with SCHD staff and Sedgwick County Strategic Communications to design educational presentations, trainings, videos, brochures, posters and website graphics to reach Sedgwick County businesses and residents in all communities within the County. The position uses leadership guidance, research, and County standards to proactively implement communications strategies based on current and future anticipated emergency response situations. The position adds designs and artwork to reports and other documents, according to County standards, cultural competencies, and health literacy guidance. Follows HIPAA policies.
Produce educational materials to reduce the spread of disease and prevent illness
- Work with SCHD staff and Communications Team to design educational presentations, trainings, videos, brochures, posters, website graphics, social media, and more
- Reach businesses and residents in all areas of Sedgwick County
- Ensure work meets expectations of timeliness, accuracy, understandability, and readability, and standards of culturally and linguistically appropriate materials
- Communicate with the Communications Team and with supervisor
- Coordinate public messaging with SCHD staff and Sedgwick County Strategic Communications
- Create and review SCHD Communications policies and procedures
Ensure communication with the public is effective, equitable, understandable and respectful
- Work with SCHD subject matter experts to obtain information and edit content as appropriate for the audience
- Research; develop story or content ideas; edit and rewrite material; correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax to improve readability; recommend changes in content, style organization, and appropriateness
- Add design and artwork to reports and other documents according to County standards, cultural competencies and health literacy guidance
Manage graphic design and multimedia projects
- Effectively coordinate information and work related to projects, including schedules, tasks, and issue tracking
- Run project team meetings and work sessions
- Document work
- Communicate with team members
- Manage changes in projects and identify alternate plans
- Communicate resource needs and any challenges to supervisor
- Drive to locations for meetings and production of materials
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Health Education, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Art or related field. Two years of experience performing in a communications or graphic design function for an organization. Strong communication and design skills are required. One year of experience with or training on computer design and desktop publishing applications. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid Kansas driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. In order to comply with the requirements of the federal health care staff COVID-19 vaccination mandate, all employees of COMCARE and the Health Department must be fully vaccinated. All offers of employment are contingent upon submission of vaccination documentation prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Education, Art or related field. One year of work in a public health department or medical clinic. Work experience with risk communications or public health emergency preparedness. Website editing experience. Video production skills.
