IT Network Architect position ensures the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of the organization’s CORE, WAN, and wireless network infrastructure. The role exists to design, implement, and maintain a robust networking environment that supports critical business functions and adapts to evolving technology needs. This includes managing network architecture, monitoring performance, and resolving issues quickly to minimize disruptions. Additionally, the position is responsible for overseeing network security, capacity planning, and collaborating with vendors for support and upgrades. The role also involves documenting best practices, maintaining detailed network configurations, and leading projects to improve network efficiency and functionality. The comprehensive network administration ensures that the organization maintains high standards of connectivity, stability, and service delivery across all IT infrastructure.

 

Management of Core and WAN Networks

  • Design, implement, and maintain CORE and WAN network architecture.
  • Monitor network performance using advanced tools, diagnose issues, and conduct troubleshooting.
  • Manage network security by configuring access controls, performing regular security assessments, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades and expansions, including capacity planning and hardware/software procurement.
  • Collaborate with vendor and service providers for equipment maintenance, technical support, and network service improvements.
  • Document network configurations, changes, and incidents.

 

Enterprise Wireless System Management (Prime)

  • Design, plan, and optimize enterprise wireless networks, conducting site surveys and leveraging predictive tools.
  • Deploy and configure wireless devices, including access points and controllers, managing SSIDs, VLANs, and security settings.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot wireless network performance.
  • Implement and manage wireless security protocols.
  • Perform capacity planning and network optimization, adjusting configurations to meet user demands and minimize interference for a seamless wireless experience.
  • Document network configurations, troubleshooting steps, upgrades, and maintaining best practices.

 

Network Administration

  • Provide rapid response and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Install, configure, and customize hardware and software, including operating systems to meet organizational needs.
  • Maintain software and resolve technical issues.
  • Collaborate with vendors for technical support.
  • Configure and manage interfaces between software applications and computer networks for seamless integration.
  • Support departmental administrators with the installation and maintenance of network systems, troubleshooting network issues.
  • Complete schedule maintenance tasks promptly, communicating objectives and results clearly to stakeholders.
  • Document and manage service tickets, ensuring they are up-to-date, accurately filled, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee timeliness and manage major projects.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of experience in switching and routing. Two (2) years of experience wireless infrastructure and management. Experience can be substituted with education which provides the required knowledge and skills. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Four (4) years of experience in switching and routing. Four (4) years of experience wireless infrastructure and management. Experience can be substituted with education which provides the required knowledge and skills. CompTIA A+, CompTIA N+
