Pay:  $30.32/hr- $63,065.60/annual The position is eligible for a $1500 sign-on bonus after 60 days of employment if all Sedgwick County policy requirements are met. 

Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm 

 

The Lead Trade Specialist is a working supervisor role. This individual supervises and coordinates a crew consisting of, but not limited to technicians that primarily provide for the repair and maintenance of heating, cooling, ventilating, controls, plumbing, lighting, and electrical systems in a number of County facilities. Work performed by this group involves a wide range of peripheral equipment and systems. Members of this group will possess a variety of trade certificates and licenses including HVAC Technicians, plumbers, and electricians.

 

Supervisory

  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assign tasks to subordinates.
  • Direct subordinates on the proper work methods, worker safety, work scheduling and other issues as appropriate.
  • Assist maintenance and technical staff as needed when appropriate.  
  • Monitor the work of staff periodically throughout the day.
  • Perform monitoring and evaluation of assigned subordinate employees.

 

HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical

  • Independently troubleshoot and repair HVAC/mechanical/control malfunctions in systems listed above.
  • Provide a schedule for preventative maintenance and repair of systems on assorted mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks to keep systems and devices working properly and safely. This will sometimes include working on “live” (energized) systems, circuits, and devices with voltages of 480 VAC.
  • Diagnose, evaluate present condition, and repair as necessary high and low pressure duct systems; including air handlers and related equipment.
  • Make needed modifications to gas supply lines as needed. (Not including welded lines.)
  • Cut and thread steel pipe
  • Solder and braze copper pipe and tubing
  • Install cast drain and sewer lines typically up to 4” in diameter
  • Operate sewer snakes for cleaning of sewer lines
  • Remove and replace toilets and sinks
  • Install/ replace outlets, light switches
  • Install conduit, junction boxes and pull wiring
  • Convert light fixture to LED
  • Change lamps and bulbs

 

Administrative

  • Monitor expenditures of purchase cards and shopping carts.
  • Order material for staff assignments
  • Create and track shopping carts for issuance of Purchase Orders
  • Keep record of and schedule all required facility inspections

 

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Five years of experience in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing. Four years of experience with carpentry or hardware. Journeyman Mechanical, Plumbing, or Electrical License. Refrigerant recovery certification, type I and type II for HVAC License only. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Six years of experience in a related field. Trade school for HVAC, plumbing or electrical / experience in HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Master Mechanical, Plumbing, or Electrical License. Refrigerant recovery certification, type I and type II. City of Wichita Backflow Certification.
