Medical Technologist II - Health

Work Schedule: M-TH 08:00-05:30, F 08:00-12:00 

 

This is professional health care work in the performance of diagnostic analytic tests on human body fluids such as blood, urine, and sputum. General supervision is received from a laboratory director, but the employee must be able to perform all testing independently giving provider’s accurate and timely results. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

 

Testing

  • Complete testing in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Follow Quality Control requirements and procedures.
  • Participate in the lab’s proficiency testing program.
  • Complete reporting of test results in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Must be an active participant in all Quality Improvement activities.

 

Specimen processing

  • Identify all specimens
  • See that lab requisitions are completed, correct, and match the specimen.
  • Enter the requisition information into the medical record system.
  • Prepare and divide specimens into required amounts for testing.
  • Compile and print the needed worksheets.

 

Equipment Maintenance

  • Follow all maintenance schedules.
  • Document all maintenance actions.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology. Two years of experience. Certified as a Registered Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist. Participates in the Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan that includes training, proof of hepatitis B immunity or vaccine, or vaccine series started within 10 days of employment. Provide proof of MMR, varicella, Tdap vaccinations, or immunity within 10 days of employment start date or within 10 days of start of employee health insurance. All employees may be required to wear respirators in emergency situations and for routine operations as requested. Employees will be enrolled in the respiratory protection program, which may include an annual fit testing and medical evaluation. This is a Tier 3 position; identified as personnel who, in a public health emergency, have the potential to be deployed to the field to participate in the response, including personnel who are already assigned to a field location. Tier 3 staff are required to complete courses IS 100, 200 and 700 within 30 days of employment. Additional trainings may be required.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Four years of experience.
