PT Immunization Clinic Nurse-HEALTH

Work Schedule: M-W 8-5:30, Th 9:30-7, F 8-12:30/12:30-5  

 

Perform direct nursing services and health education to clients of Immunization and Health Screening Clinics. Utilizes critical thinking skills and problem solving techniques based on nursing judgments. The CHN I will maintain professional expertise and keep confidentiality in all areas of patient contact. Works under the direction of written medical protocols and standing orders.

 

Provide Quality Public Services through direct patient care and education

  • Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous immunizations
  • Perform phlebotomy and capillary blood sampling for lab tests
  • Administer TB skin tests and interpret the results
  • Immunize according to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations
  • Screen for pediculosis (head lice)

 

Providing excellent customer services and accurate data documentation

  • Provide appropriate and effective patient interaction and customer service
  • Provide immunization and health screening services according to protocol
  • Minimize vaccine wastage by selecting and preparing vaccines from the correct funding source
  • Verify and accurately document vaccine inventory

 

Support Immunization Clinic Services

  • Prepare treatment room/area for patient care and immunizations
  • Travel to off-site location for mobile immunization as assigned by supervisor

 

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited two-year nursing program. Holds a valid unencumbered Registered Nurse license with the Kansas state Board of Nursing. Participates in the TB screening program that includes baseline screening for M. tuberculosis infection within 10 days of employment. Participates in the Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan that includes training, proof of hepatitis B immunity or vaccine, or vaccine series started within 10 days of employment. Provide proof of MMR, varicella, Tdap vaccinations, or immunity within 10 days of employment start date or within 10 days of start of employee health insurance. All employees may be required to wear respirators in emergency situations and for routine operations as requested. Employees will be enrolled in the respiratory protection program, which may include an annual fit testing and medical evaluation. Bilingual individuals in English and a non-English language may take a fluency test in the non-English language. To ensure the competence of individuals providing language assistance at the Division of Health, only those who pass the test may use their non-English language with clients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). After hire, a bilingual employee who has passed the fluency test may agree to take a medical interpreter skills test to interpret between a client with LEP and an English-speaking employee. (National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health and Health Care) In order to comply with the requirements of the federal health care staff COVID-19 vaccination mandate, all employees of COMCARE and the Health Department must be fully vaccinated. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Experience and/or training in public health.
