Public Health Specialist

Work Schedule: 8 am - 5 pm; Monday - Friday 

The Public Health Specialist assists with implementing and monitoring the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) Quality Improvement (QI) program, maintains the SCHD performance management system, and provides administrative support to the Public Health Performance Manager and SCHD Leadership regarding the SCHD strategic plan and public health standards work. The work of the Public Health Specialist improves the health of Sedgwick County residents by improving the performance and effectiveness of the SCHD. Work is directed, reviewed and evaluated using established performance indicators and goals. This is a non-exempt (hourly) position in the Public Health Performance Program.

Implement and monitor SCHD quality improvement (QI) program, according to written QI plan

  • Under supervisor guidance, lead quality improvement team meetings
  • Implement and monitor SCHD QI plan and track effectiveness
  • Update and revise the agency quality improvement plan
  • Distribute, collect and perform routine analysis of agency customer satisfaction surveys

Assist with implementation and monitoring of the SCHD strategic plan and performance management system

  • With supervisor, co-lead quarterly SCHD performance management meetings
  • Maintain SCHD performance management system and write routine summary reports
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the SCHD strategic plan
  • Assist in the development of SCHD-wide and program-level performance standards and measures

Assist Health Department with adherence to and tracking of public health standards

  • Coordinate, monitor and maintain public health standards documentation from all SCHD programs
  • Complete public health standards status reports
  • Monitor agency work as it aligns with public health standards

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, public administration or an equivalent degree in a related field. One year work experience performing data entry into Microsoft Excel or other software. One year work experience utilizing a word processing software such as Microsoft Word.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field. One year of work experience in quality improvement, strategic planning, and/or performance management. Two years of work experience utilizing Microsoft Word. Two years of work experience performing data entry into Microsoft Excel or other software. One year of data management and/or data analysis work experience.
