This position is responsible for direct management of the systems administration and telecommunication service groups.  This position will develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent service levels and quick resolutions.  Responsible for staffing and capacity planning, performance analysis, and developing proactive resolution plans.  Responsible for acting as a project manager and providing IT consultation for department needs.

 

Establish and maintain effective business practices to ensure the success of System Administration and Telecom services.

  • Manage and provide guidance to highly technical telecom and server administration staff, including counseling on performance evaluations, promotions, hiring, and disciplinary responsibilities.
  • Ensure maintenance of file shares, documentation, and software repository for service area.
  • Manage large projects related to IT infrastructure. Clearly defines milestones, tasks, and timelines for projects.  
  • Hold regular and productive project meetings to review status with staff and stakeholders and to properly steer and prioritize projects.

 

Server and virtualization system design and policy management.

  • Manage virtual infrastructure. Oversees upgrades as well as long term projections for resources based on growth and SAN usage.
  • Accomplish vSphere implementations with minimal service interruption
  • Maintain support level matrices
  • Leverage maintenance windows to implement major changes that require downtime
  • Conduct daily monitoring and provide timely response to latency, system warnings and critical alerts, related to SAN capacities and LUN free space thresholds.
  • Plan and implement future upgrades without service interruption
  • Hold periodic meetings with project managers and departmental representatives to recommend solutions and costs.

 

Data Center and Liebert Systems Upkeep

  • Follow and complete periodic maintenance schedules
  • Investigate long term solutions for replacement of equipment and components
  • Establish and test redundant solutions to assure performance in times of crisis
  • Pursue long term datacenter strategies
  • Review maintenance contracts and ensure renewals occur on time to avoid a gap in service coverage
  • Act as primary contact for any outages
  • Make decisions and direct staff on disaster recovery planning.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Four (4) years of relevant experience in the IT field. This experience can be substituted by education in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, telecommunications management, or a related field, with one year of education substituting for each year of experience. In addition, two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in supervision directly related to IT support in an infrastructure environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, telecommunications management or a related field. Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in supervision directly related to IT support in an infrastructure environment. CompTIA A+, ITIL v3
