Volunteer Management Coordinator - COVID-19

This is a temporary position in the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) for COVID-19 response. The Volunteer Management Coordinator COVID-19 coordinates recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, and engagement of Sedgwick County Health Department Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers for COVID-19 related activities. The position supervises the Volunteer Management Specialist COVID-19 and communicates with volunteers and SCHD COVID-19 response Operations and Leadership to place volunteers where needed. The position writes procedures; ensures timely and accurate data are entered into the electronic volunteer database system; analyzes data; and provides reports.


Ensure onboarding of new medical and non-medical MRC volunteers

  • Collect, follow up, and respond to new electronic and physical volunteer applications timely and accurately
  • Ensure background checks and medical license checks are performed
  • Regularly communicate with potential volunteers about the status of their application


Ensure ongoing recruiting of new volunteers and engagement of current volunteers

  • Work with communications and SCHD leadership to create and maintain accurate MRC information on the county website and in social media
  • Work with SCHD staff to plan and identify current and future volunteer needs
  • Actively drive to and participate in events to market the MRC program and recruit volunteers
  • Create and report volunteer recruitment metrics to SCHD leadership
  • Through email, phone calls, and virtual and in-person meetings, actively engage current volunteers
  • Communicate work schedules to volunteers


Coordinate MRC program

  • Ensure volunteer information is updated in electronic volunteer management system
  • Maintain electronic volunteer management system and accompanying procedures
  • Respond to internal and external queries about MRC
  • Supervise Volunteer Management Specialist
  • Provide regular reports to SCHD leadership and state and federal MRC programs
  • Ensure staff and volunteers follow policies, procedures, and expectations
  • Write and maintain MRC policies and procedures
  • Ensure staff working on the MRC program meet performance expectations
  • Document MRC volunteer program activities
  • Ensure incentives are provided to volunteers according to procedure


Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or other professional certification/licensure or training from an accredited program which provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. OR Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health-related, public safety/emergency management, or related field that provides verification of skills and competencies necessary to complete the essential job functions of the position. One year of experience with Microsoft Word and Excel. One year of work experience in responsible administrative work. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid Kansas driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.


Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, public safety or health-related field. One year experience with data management, databases, and/or data analysis. One year work experience in public health or medical field. One year of project management experience. Work experience managing volunteers. One or more Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Incident Command System course completion certificates (IS – 100, 200, 700 and 800).
