Workforce Engagement Officer - CORRECTIONS

The position leads workforce development planning and implementation, strategically enhancing a positive work culture and a skilled and innovative workforce. Responsible for complex work related to staff engagement and organizational performance improvements regarding hiring and onboarding new staff.

 

Community Engagement and Partnership Development

  • Initiates and attends educational and informational events related to Department of Corrections.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders on implementation and continued support of change initiatives.
  • Attend community engagement events and network with community partners. Represent the department in a professional and positive manner. This may require driving to multiple locations and transporting educational or informational supplies.  
  • Maintains educational, informational and community engagement supplies and visual aids.
  • Serves as a liaison with HR Recruitment Specialist
  • Provides facility tours to internal and external stakeholders for educational purposes

 

Staff Engagement, Onboarding and Data Collection  

  • Responsible for working with managers and supervisors to ensure best practices for onboarding process for new employees across the department.
  • Develops and remains the point of contact for a Peer to Peer mentorship program for new employees to promote a positive work culture across the department.  
  • Establishes rapport with all new hires and communicates with them regarding their transition and onboarding process.  
  • Collects and maintains data on the hiring process, onboarding, retention, DOC hiring profiles, and completes annual and quarterly reports.  
  • Partners with supervisory staff to determine staffing needs, review and score applications, participate in the interview process and make quarterly recommendations to the department managers.  
  • Evaluates department hiring and onboarding processes as a measure of continuous quality improvement and presents recommendations to ensure best practices. Knowledgeable about all positions in the department.
  • Identify and implement employee retention strategies, including employee recognition
  • Implement staff satisfaction surveys, analyze results, and provide recommendations to supervisor
  • Initiates professional development with employees to ensure they are aware of promotional and lateral opportunities. Assists employees to grow in their career and professional development opportunities.
  • Assists in creating a culture of continuous quality improvement.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related human services field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. If no degree is present, education may be substituted for experience, with one year of education for one year of experience.  One year experience in customer service, working with an offender population, or staff engagement. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. Must be at least 21 years of age. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have access to personal passenger vehicle to complete the driving duties of the position. Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience in customer service, working with an offender population, or staff engagement. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
