This position supports the Sheriff’s Office in the front lobby of the jail. This is a front-facing position that is primarily responsible for assisting individuals that walk into the jail lobby. This position is also responsible for operating the main entry and exit points to the jail, and monitoring the adjacent security equipment. The position holder is exposed to hostile and/or combative customers on a regular basis, and may need to call for law enforcement backup periodically.
Direct Front Lobby Visitors
- Address individuals who walk into the front lobby
- Explain jail procedures to help individuals understand what they are looking for and the steps required to complete them
- Explain how to use computer terminals and weapons lockers, and troubleshoot issues
- Disburse color-coded badges to non-employee visitors depending on the nature of their visit
- Operate the access control vestibules (mantraps) for entry and exit to the facility
- Monitor security equipment including metal detectors, bag scanners, and temperature scanners
- Hold entry for any individuals with prohibited items or abnormally high temperature readings, and work with them until issues are resolved
- Evaluate individuals for safety issues, and call for deputy assistance as needed
Administrative Assistance
- Hand out and answer questions about paperwork for different functions within the jail
- Take payments for functions and count cash boxes at the end of each shift
- Communicate with other divisions in the jail to complete requests
- Use jail software to look up information to fulfill visitors’ queries
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. One year of experience in a law enforcement agency, administration, or a related field. Must pass pre-employment testing of 80% reading comprehension to be completed after interview.
Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience in a law enforcement agency. One year of experience using Microsoft Suite.
