This position is located at the Offender Registration Unit. This position assists Offenders with their quarterly registration, takes fingerprints for a variety of professions and licenses, and provides customer service to citizens over the phone and in-person. This position is regularly exposed to information related to drug, violent, and sex crimes. This position also regularly assists emotionally charged or combative customers.
Offender Registration
- For newly convicted offenders currently at Sedgwick County Jail, type up initial registration forms with charges and personal identifiers, and hand off to deputies for registration at the jail
- Assist offenders with new and re-registration. Work with deputies to help offenders fill out the appropriate paperwork based on the type and severity of their conviction
- Take fees from offenders for registration, or provide paperwork and instructions to them if they are unable to pay fees
- Register transient or otherwise unhoused offenders monthly with additional paperwork
- Search for information using multiple databases to complete paperwork if the offender is unable to remember all required information
- Enter information into the appropriate databases within required timeframe
- Scan paperwork into the electronic filing system
- Work with offenders to confirm information is exactly correct to ensure they can follow other state laws and registrations including getting and updating a registered offender number on their driver’s license or state ID
- Maintain spreadsheet of fees collected to ensure organization for biweekly deposits
Fingerprinting, Concealed Carry, and Deputy Assistance
- Process Concealed carry applications for Sedgwick County
- Communicate with other agencies if applications are incomplete or if applicants have questions
- Process application prior to fingerprints being taken
- Take fingerprints for concealed carry, as well as a variety of professions that require fingerprinting before hire
- Act as a backup when the commissioned deputy is out of the office to take pictures of offenders when they report new tattoos
Additional Administrative duties
- Complete monthly file validation for sex offenders, so all files in the system are validated annually
- Receive, evaluate, and research notifications that come from other agencies, and update offender files accordingly
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of experience working in a law enforcement organization. One year of experience customer service. One year of experience with Microsoft Suite. Ability to obtain NCIC certification within six months of hire. If selected, candidates will be required to pass pre-employment testing of 80% reading comprehension to be completed after interview.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience in a law enforcement agency. Formal NCIC training.
