The General Clinic Medical Assistant supports the Sedgwick County Health Department by assisting the advanced practice clinician in providing direct patient care to clients of the Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infection, Early Detection Works and Refugee Health Programs. This position supports the SCHD mission by assisting the advanced practice provider to promote wellness, provide education, and perform testing to stop the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Employee will provide support during public health emergencies (Activation Level 1).
Patient Care
- Provide direct patient care to assigned percentage of encounters based on staffing availability.
- Schedule screening and diagnostic tests based on medical protocols and advanced practice provider orders
- Administer and prepare appropriate pharmacologic agents under provider orders.
- Maintain HIPAA and patient confidentiality
Documentation
- Complete required program data collection forms (DAISEY/ HIV) by the end of business day.
- Obtain, review, and document accurate clients’ medical/health history, consent(s), vital signs, lab specimen(s) and other required information in appropriate forms and electronic medical record per program policy and protocol
- Respond timely to internal/external customers’ questions or inquiries
- Perform monthly chart audit and timely correction of identified errors
- Maintain assigned databases and perform other administrative tasks in a timely manner
Education and Outreach
- Maintain current license, including tracking and completing continuing education
- Completes program specific training
- Participate in outreach opportunities as scheduled
Minimum Qualifications: Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited program/school. Successfully completed the medical assistant board certification exam. Certified by American Medical Technologists or American Association of Medical Assistants, current provider card in Basic Life Support. Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100 and 200.
Preferred Qualifications: One year experience as a medical assistant.
