This position oversees the training functions of the Sedgwick County Division of Human Resources in support of all Sedgwick County employees. The Training Specialist infuses creativity and innovation into the design and delivery of engaging, meaningful learning experiences, leveraging Learning Management System (LMS) data alongside insights from departments and HR leadership to identify evolving training needs. This role leads the development, enhancement, and facilitation of New Employee Orientation, Onboarding Programs, and other Countywide trainings, continually exploring fresh approaches to strengthen learning, connection, and engagement. In addition, the Training Specialist partners on initiatives that support employee retention, skill development, and a culture of continuous growth and improvement across the organization.
Oversee the Learning Management System
- This position manages training content in the SAP SuccessFactors LMS, coordinating updates with IT, integrating vendor courses, and developing learning pathways. The role serves as a liaison between departments and ERP, monitors training compliance, and analyzes LMS data and reports to identify training gaps and support reporting and training promotion for HR leadership and county stakeholders.
New Employee Onboarding and Orientation
- This position facilitates the County’s weekly New Employee Orientation and maintains orientation and onboarding programs aligned with recruitment practices, employment trends, and the County’s mission, vision, and values. The role supports employee retention through structured onboarding and engagement during the first two years of employment and coordinates with Human Resources and the Clerk’s Office to ensure a seamless onboarding experience.
Training Development and Facilitation
- This position develops the annual countywide training calendar and coordinates supervisor and Employee Assistance Program training with external vendors. The role designs and delivers department-specific and countywide training, conducts needs assessments, collaborates with HR to identify training opportunities, and manages vendor bids, contracts, and relationships in coordination with Purchasing.
Minimum Qualifications: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in training, learning and development, adult education, organizational development, or a closely related Human Resources function. One year of experience creating presentations incorporating software (PowerPoint, Google Slides, virtual training platforms, etc.). Up to four years of experience may be substituted with education that provides applicable knowledge and skills. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must have access to a personal passenger vehicle to complete the driving duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience administering or managing a Learning Management System (LMS), including course creation, reporting, compliance tracking, or learning library management. Experience applying adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, or learning evaluation techniques. Training experience with online training tools including Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WebEx. Experience using training or HR data to evaluate effectiveness, identify gaps, or inform program improvements. Experience coordinating vendor-led training or managing training contracts; or designing or facilitating onboarding or leadership development programs; or supporting employee retention or engagement initiatives through training. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, Business, or a related field. Human Resources certification such as PSHRA-CP, SHRM-CP, PHR, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR.
