Parks Maintenance Worker I - PARKS

Pay:  $17.89 per hour  

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm, some weekends

Maintain the grounds and buildings of the Sedgwick County Parks Department keeping them clean and safe for park users and staff. This position will be assigned to either Lake Afton Park or Sedgwick County Park, but may be temporarily reassigned as needed due to high workload or absences.

Maintenance

• Perform groundskeeping duties including mowing & trimming, string trimmer use, herbicide application, and watering.
• Use proper PPE and procedures to trim trees, apply chemicals, and operate machinery, including mowers, trimmers, and power tools.
• Perform landscaping maintenance and updates.
• Repair and maintain buildings including painting, drywall, and carpentry.
• Troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, and other building issues for structures on Parks property.
• Assist with plumbing repairs including full fixture replacement and repair, caulking, and preventative maintenance.
• Assist with electrical repairs as assigned.
• Collect trash and ensure Parks property is free of litter.
• Inspect playgrounds, picnic tables, docks, and other structures open to the public.
• Repair small and medium equipment and machinery.
• Safely operate and maintain County owned vehicles and equipment as required.
• Clean buildings, restrooms, and other areas open to the public.
• Provide assistance for some weekends and all holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, & Labor Day)

Customer Service

• Respectfully interact with Parks customers to provide information and take questions or complaints.
• Address Parks customers concerns and/or report issues to Assistant Park Superintendent or Park Superintendent.
• Assist with Special Events setup, operation, and break down as required.

Construction Projects

• Assist with new constructions and remodeling projects as directed.
• Perform prep work, installation, and/or repairs of concrete, asphalt, and rock as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  One (1) year of Grounds or building maintenance experience. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.

Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) years of experience in grounds or building maintenance, construction, or related field. College course work or trade school certificate in a related field.
