Performs routine work involving the observation, security, supervision, and training of juvenile clients in a 24-hour correctional facility. Leads client programming activities within the facility or, as approved, outside the facility, with emphasis on security, behavior modification, control, and modeling of prosocial attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors.
Activities Monitor
- Supervise and monitor the programming activities of juvenile clients in detention or residential facilities
- Lead recreation, instructional, or educational activities.
- Ensure maintenance of sufficient material inventories for activities.
Group Facilitation
- Complete assigned supervision, maintenance, and/or instruction roles in client programs.
- Instruct clients in the Independent Living Curriculum. Keep records for GED class participation and the related tracking of participants.
- Develop and implement activities for clients covering such topics as life skills, cultural diversity, risk topics, etc.
- Provide recruitment, coordination, and training of volunteers.
- Escort clients to and from activities; engage in liaison and other communication necessary to monitor activities of residents.
Supervisor Extender
- Assist in providing situational counseling for clients regarding their behavior to help them cope with program requirements; application of approved emergency intervention when appropriate; administer first aid and CPR.
- Initiate disciplinary action when clients violate rules, write disciplinary reports, issue consequences, and supervise the application of consequences. Investigate incidents and conduct hearings.
- Assume shift supervisory duties when other supervisors are absent (relief shift supervisor).
- Assist supervisors with routine duties and tasks to ensure facility is being operated in accordance with policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: Six months of experience working with juvenile or adult clients. Professional references are required to verify the related work experience. Three accredited hours from a college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions. Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).
