This position is mission critical to ensure that patient care diagnostic equipment, medical supplies, and the ambulance fleet are operational, ready, and available for EMS field crews. This position also works with internal and external stakeholders and vendors to ensure the logistical needs of the division are fulfilled in areas of vehicle maintenance, medical supplies, medical equipment, facilities, and capital projects.

 

Maintains and Manages Biomedical Equipment used by EMS

  • Test, performs diagnostic, calibrate, and repair 12-lead monitors/defibrillators, ambulance cots, AED’s, portable suctions, ventilators, IV pumps, cot loading systems, and all related medical equipment.
  • Complete general maintenance and inspection of all medical equipment through daily checks and evaluations
  • Maintain an inventory database for all medical equipment for programing/software upgrades, equipment lifespan, condition, and replacement planning.
  • Maintain and track all surge equipment for emergency deployment.
  • Track maintenance and repair in a shared database and generate reports on service repairs.    
  • Budget and forecast for future equipment replacement for EMS and Fire Services.   
  • Work with manufacturer’s service technicians for warranty and service repairs. Coordinate services and repairs.

 

Inventory Management and Control

  • Perform daily and weekly checks on all medications, medical supplies, and medical equipment used by EMS, looking for any deficiencies.
  • Order, track, and receive medications, medical supplies, and durable medical equipment.    
  • Assist in the distribution of mission critical supplies to outlying hospitals and EMS posts.
  • Assist in the tracking of medications or medical supplies that are on a national shortage. Forecast and prepare inventory for any shortages.
  • Keep accurate records of all EMS Post furnishings, equipment, supplies, and property. Maintain a database of items and EMS properties.  
  • Work with the Operations Special Teams in the managing, tracking, and deploying of all special team’s equipment and assets.

 

Facility, Ambulance, and Project Management

  • Repair and maintain EMS facilities through daily checks, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, generators, appliances, overhead doors, carpentry, yardwork, and painting.
  • Work with Facility Project Services, Architects, General, and Sub-Contractors on all phases of the construction or remodel of EMS facilities. 
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on onboard ambulance equipment, including radio and paging systems, suction units, oxygen equipment, refrigerators, IV Warmers and multiplexing systems.
  • Maintain, repair, and service ambulance module, including interior/exterior lighting, cabinetry, exterior compartments. 
  • Review Automotive Condition Reports, ensuring ambulances and support vehicles needing repaired or have been scheduled for services have been scheduled with Fleet Management.
  • Review Vehicle Failures and Accident Reports, following up to ensure repairs have been completed in a timely manner. Document all incidents.    
  • Work with Logistics Division Chief in researching, drafting, and reviewing new ambulance and remount ambulance

 

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma. Two years of experience in repair of medical equipment. Up to two years of experience may be substituted with education that provides applicable knowledge and skills. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 4 years of experience in repair of medical equipment. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare, biomedical engineering, or related field. State of Kansas certified Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic.
